When a Tuck-Top Isn’t Secure Enough

Standard tuck-top mailer boxes work perfectly for most ecommerce applications. But for products that are heavier, products that shift weight unpredictably in transit, or brands shipping through rough carrier routes — a tuck closure that can pop open under load becomes a real risk.

The ear lock (also called tab lock) closure uses reinforced flap tabs that fold and lock into slots in the box body — creating a mechanical lock that cannot open without deliberate reversal. How the Ear Lock Closure Works

The ear lock design features extended “ear” tabs on the closing flap that fold around the box edge and insert into die-cut slots on the side panels. Once engaged, the tabs are held in place by the tension of the folded board itself. To open, the customer folds the ears back out of the slots — a deliberate two-hand action that doesn’t happen accidentally during transit.
